MILWAUKEE URBAN LEAGUE WELCOMES STUDENTS AND FAMILIES BACK-TO-SCHOOL

Back-to-school event will offer various activities and a chance to receive the COVID-19 vaccine

Milwaukee, WI (Aug. 16, 2021) Milwaukee Urban League and its generous sponsors – Great Lakes Coca-Cola, Target, Spectrum, Nosotros Hair Studio, Pretty Girls Are Educated, Sharp Literacy, Walgreens, and America’s Black Holocaust Museum – are partnering together to prepare students and their families for a fun and successful start to the 2021-2022 school year. MUL’s Family Back-to-School Bash will take place Saturday, August 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. behind the MUL office building located at 435 West North Avenue in Milwaukee’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood.

“Education is at the core of the mission of Milwaukee Urban League,” said Dr. Eve M. Hall, president and CEO of Milwaukee Urban League. “We are excited to host this back-to-school event for students and families and we look forward to aiding them as they prepare to start a new school year.”

The family-friendly event will offer school supplies, various activities for students, education and employment placement services for adults, and COVID-19 vaccines will be available and distributed by Walgreens for individuals 12-years-old and older as supplies last. The event emphasizes MUL’s continued mission to lead through education, and the event sponsors represent the vast amount of support shown to the promising future of Milwaukee students.

“Spectrum is proud to partner with Milwaukee Urban League to help ensure families have what they need to start the school year off right,” said the Director Government & Community Strategy of Charter Communications, Margaret Bailey-Stewart. “This is a great opportunity to support the communities where our employees live and work and to highlight our efforts to make internet more accessible and affordable through programs like Spectrum Internet Assist and the Emergency Broadband Benefit program.”

Throughout this unpredictable pandemic, Milwaukee Urban League encourages those in need of support to take advantage of its beneficial programs. Offering GED and career path initiatives, virtual driver's education classes and employment placement opportunities—we recognize our community’s need for our presence during these unprecedented times.
