The Greater Milwaukee Urban League, with over a 105-year tradition in Education, Employment and Advocacy for African Americans, in partnership with the Kohler Co. are proud to announce their annual scholarship initiative for the 2024-25 collegiate year.

Founded in 1873 and headquartered in Kohler, Wisconsin, Kohler Co. is one of America’s oldest and largest privately held companies comprised of more than 40,000 associates. With more than 50 manufacturing locations worldwide, Kohler Co. is a global leader in the design, innovation and manufacture of kitchen and bath products; luxury cabinetry, tile and lighting; engines, generators, and clean energy solutions; and owner/ operator of two, five-star hospitality and golf resort destinations in Kohler, Wisconsin, and St. Andrews, Scotland. Combining two powerhouse organizations, each with histories of over 100 hundred years of service, this Greater Milwaukee Urban League and Kohler Co. scholarship initiative over the past 4 years has made a huge impact upon the lives of young people in the city of Milwaukee.

To be eligible for consideration for this award, an applicant must:
Be a Milwaukee County college-bound high school senior or early graduating Junior who will graduate in May or June 2025.
Show evidence [i.e., acceptance letter(s)] or plans for full-time enrollment in a two or four-year college program in the following states: Wisconsin, Huntsville, AL, Brownwood, TX, Casa Grande, AZ, Sheridan, AR, Union City, TN
Be able to attend a “Red Carpet” Reception on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. and sign a media release form.

2025 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS CHECKLIST
Application Form: All areas of the application form must be completed, signed and dated by applicant and their parent(s) or guardian(s).

Essay: Please answer in a minimum of 400 words:
"Withstanding a 151 year-legacy, Kohler Co. was founded on entrepreneurial passion and a commitment to innovation in kitchen and bath experiences. Kohler’s mission is to help people live gracious, healthy, and sustainable lives. Reflecting on this mission, how do you plan to integrate these principles into your academic journey and future career? Provide specific examples of how you will embody these values in your pursuit of personal and professional success."

Recommendation Letters: Two (2) signed letters of recommendation from school administration, teacher or school staff person(s) or from community representatives (for example: clergy, employer, youth group leader, etc.) who can attest to applicant’s qualifications for the selected category (1,2, or 3). Letters from family members or friends are not acceptable.

Applicant’s essay must state essay question as the title/heading and
be neatly typed in Arial or Times New Roman, 12-point font, double- spaced, with applicant’s name, contact information, high school, and word count in the top right corner of each page. (Minimum 400 words)

Official Transcript (if available) emailed or mailed in a Sealed Envelope: All transcripts must include information on applicant’s most recent available grade period and reflect a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Only transcripts that are stamped or embossed with the high school’s official seal and submitted in a sealed envelope (if mailing) will be accepted.
