S.T.E.A.M Summit
Engages 5th-8th grade students from the Milwaukee area in various experiential, hands-onSTEAM-related fields. This daylong workshop encourages students to dream big and experiencethe fun fields of science technology art/agriculture, and math and encourages and challenges these young people to do well academically.
Laptop and Scholarship Awards
This is our yearly contribution to our future leaders by providing them an opportunity to be awarded a scholarship, laptop, or both for their secondary education needs. This event is for high school students who will be attending a trade school, two- or four-year college education, or those headed to the military. The process is competitive, and applicants must complete an application, write an essay, include their high school transcript, and two recommendation letters. Each candidate’s application is then reviewed by a committee of educators, business leaders, and community partners. The monetary award is $1,000.00 per student and a laptop is valued at about $700.00.
Legacy In Motion Alumni Program
The Greater Milwaukee Urban League Project Ready Mentor and Scholarship Alumni program supports college students who previously participated in Project Ready Mentor Program or received a scholarship award from the organization. This program aims to maintain a connection with these alumni throughout their college journey, offering ongoing guidance and support.
Through the Project Ready Mentor and Scholarship Alumni program, students receive resourcesand assistance tailored to their unique needs as they navigate higher education. This includes academic support, career counseling, and opportunities, workshops, and mentorship from professionals and peers. By staying connected with alumni, the Greater Milwaukee Urban League ensures that students have the tools and support needed to succeed in college and beyond.
Mental Health Bootcamp
The Greater Milwaukee Urban League Mental Health Bootcamp is a two to four- week program that will have small group discussions that use art and music therapy, yoga, journaling and meditation as well as field experiences to help unwind after teaching sessions. Mental Health Bootcamp has been created to help assist youth ages 11-17 learn how to utilize coping skills to help them have better emotional intelligence, self-control, social and relationship skills, better anger and stress management, and mindfulness. We provide adequate support while making sure there is a private safe space, creating authentic teachable moments, and full personalengagement. These sessions will encompass dealing with social emotional learning, emotional identification, coping skills, anger management, self-identity, and grief.
