Economic Development/Outreach

We are making a difference through our leadership in several program areas, including efforts to increase homeownership rates in African American communities and improve health outcomes. GMUL continues our successful Get Out the Vote effort, which reached thousands of Milwaukee area residents and provided important information on voter rights and voting access.

Health Advocacy

Empowering families to have a better quality of life includes addressing healthcare and wellbeing needs. GMUL joins local and national leaders, healthcare professionals, healthcare institutions, and the community to address health disparities and inequities.

Our advocacy work connects African Americans and members of Milwaukee’s diverse communities with the tools and information needed to lead and live healthier lives.

Voter Education & Outreach

The right to vote was a hard-won civil rights battle. Insuring Milwaukeeans have access to information on how to vote and where to vote is essential to ensure every citizen can access the ballot box. That’s the focus of GMUL’s nonpartisan Get Out The Vote project.

Reclaim Your Vote was part of the National Urban League’s ongoing Civic Engagement and Voter Outreach campaign. In 2020 and 2024, Milwaukee was one of the critical cities selected to participate in this vital campaign.

Homeownership Advocacy

Greater Milwaukee Urban League’s homeownership advocacy work is essential to our commitment to the Greater Milwaukee Area. On average, 26 percent of African American residents are homeowners, compares to 72 percent of whites. This creates a wealth gap, impacting generations to come.

Collaborating with developers, leaders, supporters, and the community, this new initiative will address housing discrimination and disparity gap for African American residents in Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
